CAT verbal ability syllabus includes basic topics from grammar and vocabulary. Here, the details about CAT verbal ability with its syllabus is discussed in detail to help the CAT aspirants get acquainted with this section in a better way.
The Verbal Ability section constitutes three main topics as Vocabulary, Grammar and Verbal Reasoning.
Vocabulary questions test the candidate’s knowledge in English like primary meanings of words, idioms, and phrases, secondary shades of meaning, usage, associated words, antonyms, etc.
Grammar-based questions test the candidate’s capability to mark and correct grammatical errors. CAT tests the knowledge of high school level grammar and includes areas like use of articles, prepositions use of modifiers, subject-verb agreement, parallel construction, phrasal verbs, redundancy, etc.
Verbal Reasoning questions are designed to test the candidate’s potential to identify relationships or patterns within sentences or group of words.
The Quantitative Aptitude is probably the most important section of any competitive exam. Similarly, the CAT exam has a separate section for the quantitative questions. The IIMs conduct the CAT exam on a rotational basis and the questions in quant for CAT section are asked as such to test the complete capabilities and skills of the MBA aspirants. In CAT quantitative aptitude section, 34 questions are included. The CAT quantitative ability syllabus is vast and not a predefined one. The details of the quantitative aptitude for CAT section with its syllabus and other details are discussed below. The quantitative aptitude is the section where numerical questions are asked to test the mathematical skills, accuracy and speed of the candidates. In general, the questions in quant for CAT section are related to basic and elementary mathematics and require the candidates to be completely acquainted with the fundamental concepts to solve them. In CAT, the quantitative ability is a separate section and thus, a separate sectional timing is present in which the candidates are required to solve the related questions.
In 2015, CAT authorities have separated the Logical Reasoning and Data Interpretation sections from the Verbal and Quantitative section. Generally, Logical Reasoning for CAT section contains 34 questions or more with a sectional duration of 60 minutes. The CAT logical reasoning section is also a favorite section of numerous aspirants, but if not careful enough, candiates tend to make silly mistakes and eventually lose scores.
Practising different types of Logical Reasoning questions can be one way to reduce those mistakes. Also, being aware of them beforehand will help to avoid similar mistakes during the CAT exam.
